Halloween means candy - not just for the kids, but you too . . . . .

Okay, Halloween is upon us – for those people with kids, that means they will be bringing candy in to the house.  For just about everyone, that means we will be bringing candy in to the house to give away to those kids……

Suggestion Number 1 (supported by dentists everywhere, I would think) – Don’t give away candy.  Instead, give away stickers and cute toys.  I realize its too late for this year, but I get a lot of cute stuff at Oriental Trading for not a lot of money – and get age-appropriate stuff (like stickers for the young kids and eyeball balls for the older ones).  If you buy toys, instead of candy, and have left-overs you just pop them in to the attic with your Halloween decorations and save them for next year! (instead of feeling like you have to EAT the left-overs!)

Suggestion Number 2 – Buy candy that you don’t care for…. Be careful with this one, though, because you at least want the kids to like it.  Otherwise you’ll find out what the latest ‘Tricks’ are!

Suggestion Number 3 – Keep track of how many bags of candy you go through and make a note for next year.  That will help you from over shopping next year!

Suggestion Number 4 – Kids bringing candy in to the house???  If you’re going to let them consume more sugar and calories, help them to increase their activity level so THEY aren’t gaining weight because of the holiday.  Then, you’ll want to take this advice yourself, because quite often we consume some of what they bring in to the home.

Suggestion Number 5 – You’ve got plenty of time to consume that candy.  Freeze it for later.  There’s no reason that it all has to be eaten this week.

Stay Strong!
