Happy 2010!!

Happy New Year!
With each new year comes a renewed sense of hope.  Hope for your personal life, your work life, your religious or political life - it's different depending on who you are and where you live and your beliefs.  It's a great time for a new start.  There's just something about that 01/01 date that makes it exciting for us to start something new.  What will it be this year?
New organization?
New hair, makeup or wardrobe?
New eating habits?
New job?
New recreational activities?
Don't try to change everything at once.  Instead choose the one that's most important for you and start now, then add another new habit every few weeks.  For example, start managing your incoming calories today then next Monday try adding some light workouts in.  Trying to change everything at one time will only make your life more complicated, because humans hate change - as much as we look forward to it and get excited about it we really have a hard time adjusting.
Then add to that the fact that most things we want to change about ourselves aren't instant.... and we lose patience!  I planted bulbs for beautiful flowers one fall, spent HOURS choosing the right colors, finding the perfect placement and digging the little holes.  After planting them and then covering them with mulch, I stood up only to see that the garden looked absolutely no different.  What a let down!  Of course, once May came around then I got to see the fruits of my labor and was extremely pleased with myself.
Instant gratification is not something that we can get for all of our accomplishments!!  So don't lose hope after you've started work on your personal resolutions.  Change will happen with time - you make that initial effort and keep with it, it will come.
