Hmmmm

Once every so often you see an article that, as a former gym owner, makes you go hmmmmmm. THIS is such an article:

Get charged for NOT going to the gym

There are, indeed, quite a few gym owners out there that bank on people not coming in to the gym. When we owned our gym we never saw it that way. We WANTED you to come to the gym, to be healthier and feel better. We WANTED you to be proud of yourself and your body when you said what gym you belonged to. A good business thrives off of a positive experience, and a gym's 'experience' is beyond that of the gym atmosphere. Being able to keep up with your children at the playground, being able to take the steps without being winded, being able to walk 18 holes instead of taking the cart.... those kinds of things all add up to a good gym 'experience'.
Unfortunately, it is hard to help people understand the benefits they will receive by coming to the gym. Maybe hitting them in their pocketbook will work as motivation.
Signing off with only a 'hmmmm',

Tax Advantage of Weight Loss Programs! (YES!!)

Got this from a Yahoo Finance article:

Weight Loss (Sometimes)

As with any medical expense, this one can get tricky come tax season. As a general rule, costs associated with a weight-loss program are only deductible if there's a medical justification. To quote the Internal Revenue Service, "You can include in medical expenses amounts you pay to lose weight if it is a treatment for a specific disease diagnosed by a physician (such as obesity, hypertension, or heart disease)." Lap-band surgery, which is only used in cases of health-threatening obesity, is also deductible.

But there are limits: Your doctor might suggest that you start eating healthier, but that doesn't mean you can start deducting the cost of vegetables, says Jackie Perlman, principal tax research analyst for the Tax Institute at H&R Block.

7 Worst Supermarket Rip-Offs

Another great article from the 'Eat this and not that' guy, found it on Yahoo. I always wondered about 'organic' bananas and other peal-before-you-eat fruits. I apologize in advance for the bubble-burster for Funyun lovers, but I'm sure that it's not a huge surprise...
