Metabolism - a completely misunderstood word
Metabolism is a completely misunderstood word. Yes, our metabolism may change slightly as we get older - and may very slightly from person to person. But only slightly. Metabolism cannot be blamed for weight gain. Instead, the blame is on society and technology:
“As technology advances, we find that we’re less physically active as a society. Our father’s fathers had jobs that involved plowing the field, factory work, or more physically-demanding work,” says Fit Pro Scott Grzybowski, “it’s just not that way anymore. Today, most of us have jobs that include sitting at a desk or behind the wheel of a car and still consume the same number of calories. These jobs don’t include any physical activity and little to no opportunity to burn the calories that we consume every day. This little gadget gives us a chance to measure our calorie burn for the day and plan our lives and our meals around that. We are using technology to overcome the lack of activity that technology has brought on.”

My tip of the week, cold weather is upon us…that means you’re burning less calories than you were on the warmer days. Weird, huh? I know it because I’ve seen it. So increase your physical activity a little bit more during the colder months to keep up with where you were.

Some Client Testimonials

“EVERYONE should have one of these things. How else will they know how much to eat? I am never taking this thing off. EVER!” Kirsten M
“I had a great day yesterday, managed to meet my Target Burn early so got to reward myself with ice cream and knew exactly how much I could allow myself without going over my Target Calories Consumed!” Donna C

It's all a Numbers Game - About Calories in Vs. Calories Out
It's all a numbers game, about counting calories as they come in and those as you burn them. If you're wearing the Armband, then you know what you're burning - within a 92% accuracy. SO, if you're meeting your Target Numbers with your Food Log and your Calories Burned, then the problem has to be SOMEWHERE. . .
One of my clients is having a hard time losing. For weeks we went over his food log and tried to figure out what it could be, checking his measuring of foods and liquids. Helping him learn to use the Internet to check nutritional information from restaurants. I think that we finally have the problem nailed down, after weeks of saying ‘this is EVERYTHING that you ate yesterday?’ we finally figured it out. This person loves lifesavers and eats rolls of them a day (ROLLS of them) at 10 calories a candy! Once we figured that out, the calorie count came a little more under control they were better able to track their numbers, those affording the weight loss desired!
Gotta LOVVVVVEEE the system!

Emails from other pets about their people
It would seem that we’ve started quite the ruckus in the domestic pet area. . . Here are some of the Emails that I’ve received from the friends of our own pets:
Dear Sharron,
Thank you so much for encouraging my person to be more outgoing! He spends so much more quality time with me then he used to. He used to come home and sleep on the couch as he stared at a colorfully moving box in front of him. Instead, he now comes home and grabs this thing that that creates music that he shoves into his ears and we head out and have a grand time at the park. EACH AND EVERY AFTERNOON! Thank you. I only wish my neighbors could see us, unfortunately they are housebound with their people. They only get to see my when I’m in my backyard, which isn’t very often these days!!
Maybe one day all dogs and their people will have the opportunity that I have had.
Thank you!Sincerely,
Fido, from Richmond
Sharron,
I hear you’re a bit skinnier now. That’s great! I’m excited for you and your canine, I bet you’re out throwing the Frisbee and running and jumping and keeping him out until all hours of the afternoon! I’m envious. How do I get my person to the point where he can spend that kind of quality time with me?
Signed,
Punxsutawney Jill (no relation, we just happen to live in the same town)
Dear Jill,
Drop me an Email and I’ll share my calorie management secret with your people!Sharron@BodyByGriz.com

The Dog's Response - it's only fair, equal time to the pets!
Me, I like the new improved Female Parental Unit! She likes to run and play now. She goes on longer walks, FASTER longer walks. She likes to throw the Frisbee. All-in-all, I’d say that this is a good improvement and I am happy.
Sorry, cat, all you like to do is lay around and sleep. What do you care if it’s in her lap or on the couch or the bed or the cat-bed or the window sill?? The new version of the Female Parental Unit is much more suitable to me now!
Go MOM!
Happily Signed,
The Dog – on his way on the door for a loooonnnng WALK!
