Eating Right This Winter

USA.Gov’s Number 6 New Year’s Resolution – Eat Right.  The link helps you make better food choices during the holidays and throughout the year.  Remember, a pound or two doesn’t seem like much but adds up throughout the years… If you gain two pounds every year between October and the New Year, that’s 20 pounds in 10 years AND doesn’t include any weight gain during the remainder of the year.

Another great link from the USA.gov site:

Top New Year's Resolutions

Taken from USA.gov, this page tells us the most popular New Year’s Resolutions.  Number 1 – you guessed it Lose Weight!!

http://www.usa.gov/Citizen/Topics/New_Years_Resolutions.shtml

There are links to each of their Resolutions with suggestions about getting started.

Increased daily activity can help with a number of the items on this list . . I’m not suggesting that you go join a gym, just suggesting increased physical activity.  Inactive now?? Walk 30 minutes a day, or two times a day at 15 minutes each….  You’ll feel better, you’ll become more energized – I guarantee it!!

Only a couple days of 2007 remaining, make the most of them and get started on your plans for your 2008 Resolutions!

A Cancer Comeback Story

Found this through Yahoo…  It’s a great story.  “Ruth was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Disease at the age of 37. Three years later, she is the picture of health and a habitual triathlon competitor.”

Stay Informed!

I’m getting ready to head to Florida to help my Dad get settled in for the winter (his regular winter trip was postponed because he had two strokes in July).  In the meantime, I don’t want you to feel like you’re missing anything.

SO, hit this link http://my.apexfitness.com/vip/content/q_a_list.php - This is Apex’s Daily Q & A page. Full of useful information and tips and great ideas.  It’s updated everyday, because they have a huge staff that can do that kind of thing for them…. SO, until I can come back why don’t you take advantage of them every day and go check it out?

I’ll be back online on the 21st.  Dad will be settled in, or at least know WHEN we can get him in to his house, and I’ll be back and ready to take on the challenge of keeping my Blog updated 5 days a week.

Keep on track.  December begins a tough time on our bodies – between the cold and our natural ‘want’ to eat to stay warm, and the holiday cookies and goodies…. Don’t give in to temptation.  Try ONE cookie.  I’ve said it before, and will say it again, it’s NOT the quantity that you crave.

Instead, it’s the Quality.  Eat better, eat less.  There will be leftovers tomorrow!

Exercising more and finding yourself hungrier???

Another great article from our friends at Apex.

The question – “I’ve recently added running to my exercise schedule, and have found that my appetite has soared!  Should I be eating anything before running?  Or after?  Suggestions on how to counter an over-active appetite??”

my personal bodybugg update

Okay, I’m an idiot – I keep forgetting to get on the scale.  I know that sounds lame, but I don’t keep it in my bathroom (simply because it’s hard to resist stepping on the scale a few times a day when it’s in the bathroom).  So, by the time I remember to step on the scale I’m already clothed for the day…. And no one wants to see what their weight is when they’re wearing blue jeans and sneakers!

Last time I stepped on with jeans, my weight was the same – SO, I’m assuming that I lost a pound last week.  Going to try to remember to step on it it this week, because I’m heading to Florida with my father for a few days….

Nonetheless, I’m reviewing my incoming and outgoing calorie numbers and it looks like I’m on track.  I will admit that I’ve had TWO tailgating days since my last weigh-in, and those are NEVER balanced properly.  Fortunately, only one more tailgating event and one more major Holiday Party. . . . .

Speaking of Holiday Parties - Don’t forget, it’s not the QUANTITY that you are craving, but the quality.  Try a little bit of everything, don’t load your plates up with huge amounts of your favorites.  They’ll always be leftovers, and you can have more tomorrow!!

Rickets? I thought that was something from hundreds of hears ago...

Thanks to Reporter News for this article.

“Too little milk, sunshine and exercise: It's an anti-bone trifecta. And for some kids, shockingly, it's leading to rickets, the soft-bone scourge of the 19th century. . . “

Why Obese Men Post Lower PSA Levels

Another article from our friends at Yahoo.  Once again, helping us to see how being overweight may effect all sorts of aspects of our lives:

“In recent years, doctors have learned that they need to adjust the results of blood tests to properly diagnose prostate cancer in obese men, but now researchers think they know why. . . “

Obesity Keeps Patients From Needed CT Scans

I found this article on Yahoo, while it specifies CT Scans being needed after surgery – I’m would assume that it also speaks for any necessary CT Scans.

”. . . When patients weigh more than 450 pounds, standard diagnostic imaging often cannot be used . . .”
