okay, this isn't about being healthy or your weight....

Okay this isn’t about anything having to do with losing weight or selling you on purchasing the bodybugg from us…. It IS about some pretty fit individuals, though.  In honor of the big game this weekend, this is a You Tube video of (what I think is) all of the videos about choosing your NFL Fantasy Football players…. I’d seen many of them myself, but there are a few REALLY good ones that I hadn’t seen yet.  Totally worth a few minutes of your time.  Enjoy!

stumped on food for the big game???

Stumped on tasty healthy recipes for this weekend?

Try some Avocado dip - http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/healthy-recipes/NU00362

¼ cup of the dip is 65 calories, and about an ounce of chips is 150 calories

How about Southwestern Potato Skins? http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/healthy-recipes/NU00553

4 wedges is 195 calories

It IS possible to have a great tailgate party and remain true to your diet.  A few tips:

Remember that weight management is ALL about managing TWO numbers – your incoming calories (food) as compared to the number of calories that you burn (physical activity).  So, earn more Doritos or Beer by adding an extra lap or 15 minutes to your workout every day next week (truth-be-told, I should have put this out there last week and told you to earn the calories BEFORE you consume them – my bad….).

Like beer?  Choose a light beer with fewer calories, my personal choice is Amstel Light but there are options out there now with less calories (I just find that I don’t give up taste with Amstel Light).   I track my beer calories by putting the bottle cap in my pocket (3 bottle caps means 3 beers – or at least it will in the morning when your head is clearer!).

Prefer mixed drinks or wine?  Remember to finish your drink before pouring a new one, you can better track how much your drinking when  you finish your drink.  If you’re in a situation where your glass is continuously full, you have no idea how much you’ve actually consumed!

Don’t stand at the food table – put food on to your plate and WALK AWAY from the room/table with the food.  Standing beside the food does nothing but increase your odds of eating more.

Don’t start drinking before your party, save those calories for when your guests are there.

Eat lower calorie meals before the party starts.

When you’re shopping for the party, be sure to read labels for calorie content…. ‘Low Fat’ does not always mean lower calories!

Wake up feeling a little guilty on Monday morning?  Take a walk at lunch AND add 15 minutes to your gym time during the week’s workouts!!

Have fun!

Thanks to Yahoo Health for this very interesting article about what to avoid for your lunch break:

http://health.yahoo.com/experts/eatthis/19522/americas-worst-lunchesand-what-you-should-eat-instead/

REALLY like some of those heavier calorie lunches?  Try dividing it into two, putting half in to the refrigerator at work for tomorrow’s lunch!

You KNOW…. If you had a bodybugg, you’d know how much walking/running/biking you’d have to do after work to earn your favorite high calorie lunch!!!

Eating healthy on a budget

I’ve been reminding my clients that they can cut calories if they cut the money they spend on food – most especially by eating at home and packing lunch to eat at work instead of eating out.  WebMD.com has a great article about just that – CHEAP AND HEALTHY:  15 NUTRITIOUS FOODS FOR ABOUT $2

“A grocery list to help you cut food prices while you boost nutrition.  How do you eat a nutritious diet while keeping your grocery budge low?  The good news is that cheap food isn’t necessarily unhealthy food.  You can cut food costs by eating more meals at home, and by making sure they feature some of the healthiest foods from your supermarket – foods like whole grains, vegetables, and beans.  Luckily, many of these foods cost less then $2 per package….”

http://www.webmd.com/food-recipes/features/cheap-healthy-15-nutritious-foods-about-2-dollars

Have a hard time finding something to eat at home???  It helps to plan the week’s food out in advance – I know it stinks and it’s hard to do, but just think about the money AND calories you’ll save if you do!

think it's too cold to workout outdoors?

Okay, I’ll admit that I’m living in the warmth of the Keys now and working out outdoors this time of year HERE doesn’t give me quite the mental block that it did when I lived in the DC Metro area.  Here’s some great advice that I got from my weekly MayClinic.com newsletter:

Winter workouts: Dress for the elements

Want to take your winter workout outdoors? Dress in layers. Start with a thin layer of synthetic material such as polypropylene, which draws sweat away from your body. Next try fleece for insulation. Top this with a waterproof, breathable outer layer. To warm the air you breathe, wear a face mask or a scarf over your mouth. Remember to wear a hat and gloves, too. If you'll be outdoors when natural light is poor, wear reflective clothing. To stay steady on your feet, choose footwear with enough traction to prevent falls.

Personal update

Well, I started back to work this week – part time, of course.  I’m doing well so far.  I still have to be careful of prolonged standing or lifting heavy objects, and sneezing still hurts.  I’m back on my bodybugg program and in a maintenance mode – pleased to just stay where I am.

Have a good week!

Get Inspired

This is a great story about someone that could have easily given up…..

I have degenerative disk disease in the lower back. The disk between L4 and L5 is nearly gone, and L5/S1 is at about 60%. I have seen numerous neurosurgeons. Two want to cut me on the spot and insert metal things. Two told me to keep up what ever I was doing. So here’s my recipe for no surgery . . .

healthy recipes

Another thing I like about my MayoClinic.com newsletters is their healthy recipes.  Here’s one for a tasty Strawberry Banana Milkshake http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/healthy-recipes/NU00444

It’s 175 calories as written, so you don’t want to eat this with a big meal.  This should be considered an in-between meal snack.  Put a scoop of protein in it and you’ll have a great meal replacement!

(ps – if you’re like me and you don’t care for soy milk, ½ cup of Fat Free Milk has about 4 less calories)

Have you glanced at your SPAM mail lately??

While I hate to do it, every so often I glance at my SPAM mail to make sure that nothing important accidentally popped in to that folder.  In addition to all of the little-blue-pill ads that I see every day, I’m starting to see more and more ads about all of the weight loss ‘miracles’ out there.

One thing my Momma taught me is that if it sounds too good to be true it generally is.  Sure, every so often something that sounds incredibly wrong turns out to be a good thing – like that little sticker that they sell to put behind your cell phone battery that helps to boosts reception, I bought one when we moved to the Keys and (while I don’t have any extra bars) it really did make a difference in my reception.  But generally speaking, these too-good-to-be-true offers are just someone trying to take advantage of our wants and desires to make a fast buck.

We used to own a gym where we had every used-car-salesman type coming in trying to sell us on the latest fad to sell to our clients.  We just wouldn’t do it.  My husband would research the product and we just wouldn’t sell something that we didn’t believe in.  The bodybugg, however, we believe in.  We wore it and tested it first.  By doing that, not only did we get to learn how to use the product but our clients got to see it in action as we lost weight…. Then we got certified to sell the product and they watched as their fellow gym members lost weight and started being more active  - one of my favorite stories is of a grandma who actually beat her grandchild while racing to a Disney character in Disney World!

One client was thrilled because she could finally, comfortably, get down on her knees to clean the drain in their fishpond.

What’s your reason?  Find your reason for getting down to, and maintaining, a healthy weight (thus, the name of our Blog).  After you’ve found your reason, come visit us at www.MoveMoreEatLess.org and we’ll help you meet your goals – and then help you keep that weight off.

It's January, you're starting to hear about it everywhere

Everyone at work is talking about watching their weight.  All of the TV commercial breaks have at least one ad about weight training or some diet aid miracle…. If you weren’t thinking about it before the end of 2008, I’ll bet that you’re considering it now.

Weight Management on your terms.  No harsh diet, no hard to follow recipes.  No prepackaged foods – unless you WANT to go to your local grocer’s freezer section and purchase Lean Cuisines or one of your other favorite frozen meals.  With the bodybugg, you eat what you want, by monitoring your incoming calories (food) and comparing that to the number of calories that you are burning (physical activity).  By watching these two numbers, you’re earning your beer or your chocolate cake or whatever your vice is.

Read more at www.MoveMoreEatLess.org – the third version of the Armband has just been released.  We have one of the Version 2’s in stock and will offer it at a 20% Discount (program A with 2 remote phone sessions is $245, Program B with 2 hours of Remote Consultations is $345) – read more about the pricing here: http://movemoreeatless.org/files/BBWeightControlPricing.pdf

Interested?  Drop me an Email at Sharron @ SharronG.com or call the phone number on the website!

*20% Discount is valid until the one remaining V2 Armband is sold, after that we will be offering only the V3 Armband*

personal update

I just realized that it’s been a couple of weeks since my last update – Yesterday was my one month mark since my surgery.  I’m having kind of a bad day today, a little tired and nauseous.  Otherwise, I’ve been doing very well for the past two weeks.  On the 24th, we started getting me out in little bits at a time (my sister was still here then, so was able to take me out).  We went to the Hemingway House on Christmas Day, and other days went to the grocery store or went out to Key West and walked on the pier….  She left on Sunday, since then I’ve been trying to get back to normal at the house.  I put my bodybugg back on (why bother to wear it after surgery when it already caused me quite a bit of weight loss and I really didn’t have control over what I could do??), and started doing this like updated Quicken and paying bills and stuff.

I made it a point to begin standing at my kitchen counter to work on my laptop – and walking greater distances, fewer walks a day but greater distances.

My next doctor appointment is this Wednesday, the 7th, and I hope to get a fairly clean bill of health…. At least enough to get back to work part time.

My stomach is still sore and I don’t quite have use of all of my ab muscles exactly right yet, but otherwise I’m feeling better.

Ladies – don’t forget to make those annual GYN appointments!!!

Walking vs running.... vaccuming??? How many calories AM I burning?

Yahoo had an article yesterday that I thought I’d publish, even though it’s guessing a little high – it’s going to give you a great idea about how many calories you can burn doing different activities.

http://shine.yahoo.com/channel/health/burn-baby-burn-331732/

It is a great way to see that there is a difference between being busy (dusting, paying bills, making dinner) and being physically active (you don’t have to take up biking or running, just a walk around the block burns 4 times as many calories for me then sitting down to watch TV).  Want to know exactly how many calories YOU are burning?  The number of calories you burn are based on a number of different factors:
Sex – Men burn more calories then women (I can’t explain why, they just do…. Darn it)

Weight – The more you weigh, the easier it is to burn calories

Muscle Mass – Muscle burns more calories then fat (ANOTHER great reason to weight train while you’re losing weight)

With our program, you can see exactly how many calories you are burning so that you know how many calories to eat:
www.MoveMoreEatLess.org

The bodybugg program is available with the Armband (where you get to see how many calories you are burning) and, a slightly less expensive option, without the Armband (where you and I have a conversation to come up with an educated guess as to how many calories you are burning – then you plan your incoming calories around that number).

Want more information then is available on that website?  Drop me an Email at Sharron @ SharronG.com.
